One of the UK’s most experienced and authentic DJs, Jane Fitz is living proof that you can carve out a DJ career precisely on your own terms. Demand for her rich, extended sets remains high, a testament to both her dedication and hard work, combined with impeccable mixing, singular vision and a deep, deep record collection.
There are very few DJs so dedicated to the craft of storytelling as Jane – and she tells those stories with creativity and ease, while always bringing the party. It’s this unique approach that has built Jane’s reputation from the ground up. She honed her talent honestly over many years, working her way through the late-90s Hong Kong club scene, through London’s illegal warehouse parties and UK free-party movement into the most respected clubs and festivals around the world. This varied development has helped her forge so many longstanding relationships that see her invited back year on year. Key residencies and associations have included Closer and Brave Factory in Ukraine, Freerotation in Wales, rural in Japan, Dekmantel, Houghton, Norway’s Monument festival, Field Maneuvers and her own Night Moves parties in the UK. And and over the years she’s formed close ties to legendary places such as Lux Fragil, De School, Labyrinth, Draaimolen, Concrete, and The White Hotel, as well as a four-year residency on Rinse FM and at London’s Pickle Factory.
Jane is happiest outside the confines of a club, preferring to weave her magic in forests, fields, mountains, deserts or beaches, always bringing an intriguing selection that blends early UK acid, new beat and EBM into deep, psychedelic house, techno and trance – a sound uniquely her own. Jane also delivers mesmerising downtempo sets – including legendary ones at Nachtdigital, Freerotation’s ambient yurt and Hidden Sounds – and is a longterm advocate of the warm-up, electing to do so when many DJs prefer to cling to peaktime. And every so often, she breaks out a pure deep house set, a nod to her past, often with Night Moves partner Jade Seatle.
Always ready to be challenged, Jane regularly applies herself to varied b2bs, having partnered with DJs as varied as XDB, Marco Shuttle, Francesco Del Garda, Jade Seatle, Carl H, John Talabot, Miki, Spekki Webu, Konduku, Eric Cloutier, Claudio PRC, Solar and Francesco Farfa. Occasional productions under the Invisible Menders name (co-produced with Dom Ahtuam) on labels such as Porn Wax, Boe and Animals On Psychedelics have snuck out the past few years. And she often A&Rs or pens sleevenotes for labels such as AOP, Sound Metaphors, Seven Hills and Kalahari Oyster Cult. But playing records in obscure locations remains her first love – and that’s where you’re most likely to find her, controlling the dancefloor, bending both bodies and minds.
