日本におけるクラブ・カルチャー黎明期の 90 年代初頭より活動を開始。トランス、テクノ、ハウス、ディスコと変遷を続け、現在はダンス・ミュージックからアンビエント、リスニング、エクスペリメンタルまで幅広いジャンルを網羅するフリースタイルを展開、国内外で長きにわたり活動を続ける。選曲家、文筆家、プロデューサー、レコード・ショップ/レコード・レーベル主宰など、音楽旅先案内人としても多彩な仕事に従事し、リミックス/リエディット・ワークも多数こなす。昨今は即興音楽家とのライブ・セッションにも取り組んで、LA の ESP Instituteから Chee Shimizu + miku-mari 名義でのアルバムを 2021 年 2 月にリリース。同年 10 月にリリースされたスイス人ギタリストPablo Colorの最新アルバムに同ユニットによるリミックスが収録された。著書に『obscure sound 桃源郷的音盤 640 選』『OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION』。
Chee Shimizu has been active since the early 90’s, at the dawn of club culture in Japan. He has built his DJ career in Japan and abroad for many years, developing his wide range of music style. Started from trance, techno, house, disco, and now his range is even more colourful that he could drive to outside of dance music such as ambient, listening and experimental. He has also piled his career as a songwriter, producer, record shop/record label owner, and has done a great number of remix/edit work.
Recently, he is involved in live sessions with improvisational musicians and released an album from Los Angeles based label 〈ESP Institute〉in February 2021, under the name of Chee
Shimizu + miku-mari. In the same year, there remix was recorded in the latest album by Swiss guitarist Pablo Color. He is the author of “OBSCURE SOUND: 640 Peachy Sound Albums” and “OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION”.
